Masturbation & Meditation: Some More of What we Teach at Sensual By Nature Studio

“In deep meditation, a sexual orgasm happens – not with someone outside you, but with your own polar opposite within. You meet there: your woman and your man meet. The meeting is spiritual, not bodily.” – Osho

Meditate before you move to masturbate. Masturbation can be a boon or a bane, depending on what one does with it. For starters it can bring intimate familiarity with your own sexual response, orgasm, etc. So this helps your inner landscape become well known by you, as you are not with a partner  which in truth allows for the cultivation of a higher level of individualized stimulation. If masturbation is used for Tantric training and cultivation, if you learn and practice the techniques for holding back, with edging on the subtle wave of orgasmic energy, then that is a “boon.” If your masturbation practice is used to quickly “release’ nervous system pressure by quickly moving to drain  vitality, that is the “bane.” This understanding is simply remedied by technique, by learning and having the patience to incorporate your special blessing of ecstatic conductivity that arises in your nervous system through focusing on asanas, mudras, bandhas and other methods of meditative awareness. All of these are yogic methods of self stimulation for cultivation of ecstatic energies within the body and are commonly used by advanced yogis and yoginis as needed. The best opportunity for doing good with yogic self stimulation of any kind is by doing it on top of rising inner silence. Pure bliss consciousness cultivated in daily, deep meditation. Practicing meditation before moving directly to use masturbation as a form of energetic “release” is a deeper, more vitality driven way of being, which will instill in you a long term development of life force energy and wisdom that has endless capacity for growth within the Self. As meditation deepens within your being and becomes your path to calming the nervous system and channeling the “chi” the addition of mudras and bandhas as meditative masturbatory practices becomes second skin. . . and in addition to giving you a blissful state of high energy, creativity and loving composure. . . can lead you to places both material and spiritual that you never even imagined existed.

Neurobiology of Kundalini

Kundalini means coiled serpent, which means latent, or stored energy. Once awakened the term “kundalini” is still used, though in its dynamic mode it can hardly be regarded as “latent” anymore.

The seat of the energy lives in our pelvic region, and is the vast storehouse of our sexual energy. The primary purpose for this energy is reproduction, for natural perpetuation of the species. However, if sexual activity is minimized a build up of this energy occurs and can overflow into amazing creative behavior, athletic achievement, can be destructive behavior, or any and all of these. In other words, sexual energy has potential to be expanded to other uses besides reproduction.

In Tantra, direct means can be applied to make good use of the principle of expanding the use of sexual energy.

One of the main things I teach at Sensual By Nature Studio is that it is possible to promote the expansion of sexual energy to higher functioning in the nervous system by means that are less directly focused on sexuality. This is where yogic practices like mudras and bandhas are useful. I will describe these practices in later blog entries. Here I want to discuss the neurobiology of kundalini.

There is a primary channel kundalini takes up through the body as it evolves to higher manifestation within us. This is the central spinal nerve called the sushumna, in yoga terms. This spinal nerve is the same as what we call the spinal cord in the center of the spinal column and is the primary channel of awakening of kundalini in the body. It is the primary channel both in the flow of energy and in the experience of ecstatic conductivity that arises. The spinal nerve is also the foundation and link between traditional energy plexus enters located in the nervous system, called chakras, and the tens of thousands of nerves fanning out to every part of our body.

Meditation on spinal energy is a key aspect of the beginning awakening and cultivation of sexual energy or “chi.” Tune in and let yourself become uncurled, and alive, and ecstatic and filled with love.

“If you become meditative while making love, the quality of sex changes, and something new enters into it – it becomes tantric, it becomes prayerful, it becomes meditative it becomes Samadhi.” – Osho
